According to Coluna Do Fla, Gonzalo Plata has returned to full training at Ninho do Urubu after right thigh discomfort, following light work last week, and could boost Leonardo Jardim’s squad against Santos.
The session marked Flamengo’s return after four days off during the Fifa break, with training planned through Saturday and a rest day on Sunday.
Plata’s problem emerged late in the 2-1 win over Bragantino at the Maracanã on Sunday, 20 September. He withdrew from Ecuador’s squad for friendlies with South Korea and Japan. The issue was assessed as a functional muscular problem after talks with Flamengo’s medical staff, and scans on 23 September showed no lesion.
Ayrton Lucas faces a different scenario. The left back was injured in the first half against Bragantino while attempting a burst, and Alex Sandro came on. He sustained a muscle injury to the back of his right thigh. The initial estimate is around one and a half months, and he remains under medical care, with an early November return fitting that timeline.
On Monday, 28 September, Arrascaeta fractured his left wrist in Uruguay’s 4-1 win over South Korea. The fracture was later confirmed and surgery has been indicated, with the procedure planned for Thursday, one October, and no return date set. Evertton Araújo remains sidelined with a grade 3 left adductor injury.
Flamengo lead the Brasileirão on 60 points, three clear of Palmeiras, and face Estudiantes of Argentina in the Libertadores semi-finals on 15 and 22 October. Their next match is at Vila Belmiro against Santos on Thursday, eight October, at 19:30 Brasília time, live on Premiere pay-per-view. Plata’s response to training will determine whether Jardim can name him, while Ayrton Lucas and Arrascaeta remain outside the immediate plans.
