The Argentine Football Association responded after a court ordered its authorities to appear for questioning in a probe into alleged fiscal irregularities. It also moved to seek the suspension of round nine in support of its leadership.
The federation said in a statement that there is no enforceable debt linked to the obligations cited in the complaint, adding that the payments were made voluntarily before their due date.
That argument has already been lodged with the intervening court and is pending a decision by the Cámara de Apelaciones. ARCA was criticised for attempting to treat not yet due, and therefore uncollectable, obligations as the basis for an alleged criminal tax offence, a stance described as contrary to current rules.
During a meeting of the Professional League Executive Committee, club leaders unanimously resolved to request the suspension of round nine, scheduled between Thursday five and Sunday eight March. The move would also extend to the other categories of Argentine football.
The decision was framed as a repudiation of ARCA’s complaint and as institutional backing for the officials involved. The legal dispute now directly affects the organisation of the domestic calendar.
