AFC Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of right-back Juanlu Sánchez from Sevilla for £9.5m, rising to a possible £11.2m with add-ons. According to Bournemouth Echo, the 22-year-old arrives on the south coast with significant experience for his age.

A Sevilla academy graduate, Juanlu made 68 appearances for the club’s second team before playing more than 100 times for the senior side, including in the Champions League.

He spent 2022/23 on loan at Mirandés in Spain’s second tier, featuring 38 times and returning two goals and five assists. For Sevilla’s first team he contributed six goals and 11 assists. He can also operate further forward as a winger.

On the international stage, he represented Spain at the 2024 Olympics and helped his nation to the gold medal. Bournemouth had targeted a right-back after Alex Jimenez was suspended by the FA at the end of last season pending an ongoing investigation.

Juanlu said he and his family were delighted to join, describing Bournemouth as a welcoming club and a place to grow. He said he thinks the Premier League is the best in the world and that playing in it had long been a dream.

President of football operations Tiago Pinto highlighted the defender’s high-level experience at 22 and his consistency in domestic and European competition, adding that his hunger adds valuable characteristics to Marco Rose’s squad. Juanlu becomes Bournemouth’s third summer addition after striker Alvaro Rodriguez and centre-back António Silva.
