AFC ‘considering creating’ Asian Nations League from 2030 | OneFootball

ESPN reports that the Asian Football Confederation is considering creating an Asian Nations League from 2030 as part of a revamp of World Cup and Asian Cup qualifying.

Following Europe and Concacaf, with Africa set to adopt a similar model from 2029, the competition would be staged every two years. It would feature three tiers, with 18 nations in each of the top two and 11 in the third, and automatic promotion and relegation.

In World Cup aligned cycles, beginning in 2032-2033, the top six in tier one would qualify automatically.

Teams finishing seventh to tenth would then play a tournament for the confederation’s final two places, the top two advancing and the third entering an intercontinental play-off.

From 2030, Asian Cup qualification would also run through the Nations League.
