Brentford midfielder Onyeka contributed with a typically combative performance, making two tackles, seven recoveries and one block.
Nigeria have an unblemished record at AFCON, having beaten Tanzania (2-1), Tunisia (3-2) and Uganda (3-1) in the group stage.
Onyeka featured in the 3-2 victory over Tunisia, impressing in a midfield three alongside Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi.
Nigeria will meet Algeria in the quarter-final on Saturday (4pm kick-off GMT).
“It’s a huge thing, representing over 200 million people, and there’s a lot of pressure.
“It’s always special. My brothers send me pictures when I play for Nigeria. It’s a different feeling, when you know that people who you love are watching you.
“Hopefully this will be our year, having lost it last time in the final. Not so many people thought we could get to the final, but we did.
“Now people are saying, ‘Can they do it again?’ This squad is one of the best the Super Eagles have ever had. William Troost-Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon – we have good leaders in this group.
“It won’t feel new to us, and we know what we want to achieve. We want to give Nigerians the trophy.”
Dango Ouattara’s Burkina Faso exited the tournament at the round-of-16 stage with a 3-0 defeat to holders Ivory Coast on Tuesday.
Ouattara featured in all four of the Stallions’ games. The Bees forward starred during a dramatic 2-1 win over Equatorial Guinea, assisting Georgi Minoungou’s equalising goal as the Stallions turned their opening game around in stoppage-time.
