Africa divided behind CAF’s public backing of FIFA and Gianni Infantino | OneFootball

According to L'Équipe, Africa’s decisive 54-vote bloc is more fractured than the Confederation’s official backing of FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino suggests.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe and FIFA president Gianni Infantino were together at Canada 0-3 Morocco on 4 July, in the World Cup last 16.

With 54 FIFA-affiliated federations, Africa is the largest voting pool after Europe with 55, and it has long been pivotal in global football elections. There is no reason to think that will change.

In early August, CAF’s executive committee unanimously reaffirmed its support for Infantino.

The confederation, led by Motsepe, who is close to Infantino, had already done so in April after he announced a final re-election bid.
