Chelsea begin their 2026 pre-season schedule against Western Sydney Wanderers in Sydney, Australia, on Tuesday.

Xabi Alonso and Chelsea arrived in New South Wales ahead of their Australian leg of the overseas tour.

Western Sydney Wanderers are up first for the Blues, before facing Tottenham Hotspur on August 1.

Alonso has already seen a glimpse of his Chelsea team, both in training and in two behind-closed-doors friendlies against Crawley Town and Bromley, which the Blues won.

They face a Western Sydney Wanderers side, who were in action on July 22 against Tigers FC. Ufuk Talay's side claimed a 2-0 win over Tigers FC to progress into the Hahn Australia Cup Round of 16.

The A-League side finished bottom of the table in 2025-26, which prompted them to make a change to their management.

Now they welcome the current Champions of the World to Western Sydney in a historic encounter for the Aussie side.

Chelsea have taken a 28-man squad to Australia for the first leg of their overseas pre-season tour.

Key players including Levi Colwill, Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Estevao Willian have all travelled and trained, so are expected to get some minutes in Sydney on Tuesday evening.

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is set to head into the new season as the club's number one. He will be keen to get back going at Accor Stadium.

Several academy stars, including Landon Emenalo, were selected by Alonso for the tour. They will be desperate to be given a chance to stake their claim to play a part in the squad over the course of 2026-27.

Meanwhile, Geovany Quenda is not available after not travelling with the squad to Australia. Following a small knock, he will join up with the team in Asia for the second leg of the tour. Emmanuel Emegha has been ruled out of both parts of the tour due to recovering from a muscle problem.

The wait to see club-record signing Morgan Rogers, as well as club captain Reece James, will continue until after the tour due to their World Cup involvement.
