After a lean first season, Ally Samatta is now leading Le Havre’s line with conviction.

L'Équipe notes that the Tanzanian is currently HAC’s most convincing attacking option.

In Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Angers, the 33-year-old took seven shots and was the main threat.

Last term a long drought cost him his place and he finished with only two goals, the first arriving on the 29th matchday.

He headed in at Lyon in a 1-1 draw, then hit the bar in the 1-2 loss to Brest on a move where the VAR might have overturned the offside.

Against Angers he also clipped the post from distance.

He says he is the same player, but arriving from PAOK only two weeks before last season’s start left him without a pre-season and hampered adaptation.

He adds that sometimes minutes and chances still do not bring a goal, and credits the team, coach and staff for keeping faith.

Sharper and more connected, he has shifted from centre to the left flank for the past two games.

After Toulouse he will have time to refine those habits. Retired from international duty and a former Tanzania captain, he can now focus fully on the club.
