Good news for FC Bayern: Konrad Laimer appears to have fully recovered from his adductor injury. The 29-year-old has returned to team training and is on the verge of making his comeback.

Laimer had surprisingly missed Bayern’s last match before the international break against Union Berlin. The Austrian was not part of the squad for the 7-0 victory due to an injury in his left adductor region.

Immediately after the match, the Munich club had cautiously given the all-clear. Nevertheless, Laimer initially decided not to travel to join the Austrian national team and missed the first two Nations League matches.

Laimer: “Fully fit and ready”

The Bayern pro has since joined Ralf Rangnick’s squad. After about a week and a half off, Laimer has resumed full team training and could return to the field as early as Thursday against Ireland in Dublin.

Whether he’ll make the starting lineup right away remains to be seen. In any case, Laimer himself no longer sees any limitations.

“I’m happy to be back and to be able to help the team, both on and off the field. There’s nothing better than returning to the ÖFB and seeing my friends and so many new faces,” the 29-year-old told the Kronen Zeitung.

Laimer also gave the green light regarding his physical condition. He said he is “fully fit and ready. I’m really looking forward to playing soccer.”

Comeback Comes at the Right Time for Bayern

For Vincent Kompany, this quick return is important news. After the international break, the German record champions will immediately face a tightly packed schedule again.

On October 10, Bayern will first face FC Augsburg on the road. A few days later, they’ll play a Champions League match against Viking Stavanger, followed by the Bundesliga showdown against RB Leipzig to round out the week.

It is precisely during such a phase that Laimer’s versatility is particularly valuable to Kompany. The Austrian can play both in central midfield and at right back, giving the Bayern coach additional options for rotation.

For now, however, Laimer could still make two more appearances for Austria. After the match against Ireland, an away game in Kosovo awaits on Sunday.

From Bayern’s perspective, though, the most important news is already clear: his adductor issues appear to be behind him, and Laimer is ready to play again.
