Secret summit in Munich! Bayern executives meet with Pep Guardiola | OneFootball

High-profile reunion in Munich: Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge met with Pep Guardiola for a private dinner last Monday. The former Bayern coach took advantage of a visit to Germany to catch up with his old teammates.

According to BILD, the meeting took place at the “Chang” restaurant in Munich-Grünwald. In addition to Guardiola, Hoeneß, and Rummenigge, Hoeneß’s wife Susi and Rummenigge’s wife Martina were also present.

The gathering reportedly had no sports-related purpose. In particular, it did not concern a possible return of Guardiola to FC Bayern. The 55-year-old had left Manchester City last summer after ten years and was in Germany for a meeting with his sponsor, Puma, in Herzogenaurach.

Hoeneß Confirms Meeting with Guardiola

Hoeneß confirmed the dinner to BILD: “It’s true that we met. Pep, Karl-Heinz, and I share a close friendship. We had a wonderful evening.”

The close bond between Guardiola and his former Bayern bosses thus continues even ten years after his departure from Munich. The Spaniard coached the record champions from 2013 to 2016 and, during his three years at Säbener Straße, won three German championships and two DFB Cups, among other titles.

Particularly interesting: Another prominent Bayern figure was actually supposed to be at the table as well.

Kompany had to cancel the Guardiola dinner

At Guardiola’s express request, Vincent Kompany was also invited to the gathering. The current Bayern coach knows the Spaniard very well from their time together at Manchester City. Kompany played there for several years under Guardiola and, as captain, was one of his most important leaders.

However, the reunion didn’t take place this time. Kompany was attending a coaches’ conference in Stuttgart at the same time and therefore had to cancel.

It appears the get-together has merely been postponed. Hoeneß has already announced a rescheduled date: “We’ll be happy to make up for the dinner with Vincent and Pep at the next opportunity.”

The fact that Guardiola—of all times—scheduled time for Hoeneß and Rummenigge during a visit to Germany and also wanted Kompany to be there underscores the former Bayern coach’s continued close relationship with his former teammates.

However, there is no cause for speculation about a coaching comeback: According to BILD, Guardiola’s visit was purely private.
