FC Bayern announced on Tuesday following the supervisory board meeting that Max Eberl and Jan-Christian Dreesen have each signed a new contract running through the summer of 2029. A new contract naturally comes with certain expectations.
Generally speaking, however, such a contract first and foremost means that the work done so far has been satisfactory. That was precisely the prevailing sentiment in recent weeks. Eberl and Dreesen have done a good job; in particular, Bayern’s summer transfer window went well.
Herbert Hainer, Bayern’s president, also expressed satisfaction that the contracts could be extended. In an interview with the TZ, he now spoke about the expectations for the management duo.
“It is and remains our goal to be among the leading clubs nationally and internationally—while remaining true to our values as a traditional Bavarian club. That’s what our members and fans expect, and that’s what we expect of ourselves. And to achieve that, we must also create the necessary conditions off the field,” Hainer explained.

He added: „We’re currently investing heavily in our infrastructure—most notably in the expansion of Säbener Straße, the acquisition and renovation of the Unterhaching Sports Park for our women’s team, and the new Performance Center at the FC Bayern Campus—and every groundbreaking should ultimately have an impact on the field.“
So it’s not just about making good decisions, but about having a plan that works in the short, medium, and long term. FC Bayern wants to lay a foundation that ensures the club is well-positioned in all areas. Bayern chairman Uli Hoeneß recently stated that this is the decisive factor behind his decision to step down.
Hainer agrees. “We’re working on the foundation to take the club to the next level; we’re building the infrastructure today for the next era of Bayern. To do that, we need an executive board that provides momentum,” he explained.
