FC Bayern pulled off a shock win against a courageous Freiburg side, coming back from 2-0 down to turn the game around and win 6-2.
The visitors from Breisgau got off to a dream start in the Allianz Arena. After just twelve minutes, Yuito Suzuki gave Freiburg a 1-0 lead following a corner kick. Just five minutes later, Johan Manzambi took advantage of another set-piece situation – he headed home after a mistake by Neuer to put the visitors 2-0 up. It was the second game in a row in which Bayern conceded two goals from set-pieces.
The Munich side needed time, but then got into the game better. Lennart Karl scored the important equalizer in the 22nd minute after an assist from Olise – it was the record champions‘ first serious goal. Bayern then increased the pressure noticeably.

The game then shifted almost completely into the visitors‘ half. FCB increased possession to over 70 per cent, but struggled for a long time against a well-organised Freiburg side. The reward came shortly before the break: Michael Olise scored a well-deserved 2:2 equaliser in the 45th minute with a precise shot from 15 metres after a one-two with Karl.
Bayern kept the pressure on in the second half, and in the 55th minute it was Dayot Upamecano who scored from a corner kick from Olise to give Bayern a 3-2 lead – Freiburg had lost sight of the center-back in the five-meter area.
Harry Kane followed up just five minutes later: After a series of passes via Olise, Karl and Pavlović, the ball fell somewhat fortuitously to the feet of the England striker, who struck from a central position to make it 4:2.
With the lead behind them, FC Bayern controlled the game – and had not yet had enough. In the 78th minute, substitute Nicolas Jackson scored to make it 5:2 after an assist from Olise. Four minutes later, Olise himself increased the lead to 6:2 with a spectacular solo effort – his fifth goal of the evening.
Freiburg were unable to counter Bayern’s powerful attack in the final phase. Even a triple substitution and further late substitutions were ineffective. Hiroki Itō was substituted for FC Bayern and celebrated his comeback after a long injury break.
FC Bayern will travel to London on Wednesday for their next top match in the Champions League – against FC Arsenal. Next weekend, they will play at home against FC St. Pauli. SC Freiburg face Viktoria Pilsen in the Europa League on Thursday before FSV Mainz 05 visit Breisgau on Sunday.
