Following Jamal Musiala’s latest collapse during FC Bayern’s friendly match in Heidenheim, the cause is now clear. The 23-year-old has spoken out about his health.

The images once again caused great concern at FC Bayern. Just a few days after his collapse during the Telekom Cup match against RB Leipzig, Jamal Musiala had to leave the field early during the 4-2 friendly win against 1. FC Heidenheim.

Musiala had only come on as a substitute during the second half and initially made a good impression. The attacking player was immediately integrated into Bayern’s play and, among other things, set up a scoring chance for Harry Kane.

Shortly afterward, however, another scare followed. Musiala once again appeared dazed and fell to the ground. The medical staff rushed onto the field to attend to the national team player. After receiving treatment, Musiala was able to get up on his own and leave the field.

After the match, Max Eberl had already hinted that the club’s officials were aware of the circumstances. “Jamal will address this in the near future. We knew and still know what happened, but Jamal will speak out,” explained the sporting director.

Musiala Speaks About Neurological Dysfunction

Now Musiala himself has set the record straight. The 23-year-old explained in detail on Instagram what lies behind the two incidents: “I’ve been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absences, which are attributable to a neurological dysfunction. These can lead to the moments that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig or even now in Heidenheim. I know that these seem scary at first glance—but for me, they’re currently part of my everyday life. I’m receiving the best medical care for this and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey. Importantly, there is no further health risk.”

This confirms that the two incidents, which occurred within a few days of each other, are related. At the same time, Musiala expressly emphasizes that the absences identified are treatable and that there are no further health risks.

In the first incident against Leipzig, the initial assumption was that he might be experiencing circulatory problems. Musiala collapsed in the final stages of the match amid high temperatures. After receiving medical attention, he was able to leave the field on his own.

The Bayern star returned to training as early as Monday and completed a roughly 30-minute session. He was subsequently back in the squad against Heidenheim and was substituted into the game by Vincent Kompany.

Bayern was aware of Musiala’s situation

The fact that FC Bayern fielded Musiala despite being aware of the issue raised questions immediately after the second incident. However, Eberl’s statements already made it clear that the medical situation was known internally.

The sporting director did not want to preempt Musiala’s explanation and repeatedly referred to an upcoming statement from the player. That statement is now available.

For now, Musiala’s statement does not indicate how his athletic career will proceed or whether the diagnosis will affect his availability for upcoming matches. What is clear, however, is that, according to his own account, Musiala is undergoing medical treatment, remains optimistic about the situation, and is supported by both FC Bayern and his personal circle.
