According to Football Italia, Udinese and Poland midfielder Jakub Piotrowski will undergo cardiac ablation to correct a benign arrhythmia, following Scott McTominay’s procedure earlier today.
McTominay, a Scotland international with Napoli, was diagnosed with a mild benign arrhythmia. Napoli medical staff recommended ablation, performed this morning in Manchester, and he is expected to be sidelined for about two months after an initial two-week complete rest.
Piotrowski received a similar diagnosis after appearing in the Serie A match against Lazio on Monday evening. He will also have a cardiac ablation and can return to football following rest and recovery.
The arrhythmia was identified during the game through wearable technology that allows medical staff to monitor cardiac function throughout matches.
With improved screening and testing, Serie A clubs are increasingly detecting potential cardiac issues at an early stage.
