After PSG and Real: Barça also set their sights on Upamecano

Dayot Upamecano is highly coveted by Europe’s top clubs, and FC Barcelona are now another interested party in the poker game

Dayot Upamecano is only tied to FC Bayern until the end of the season, after which he would be available on a free transfer. In view of this and his current outstanding performances for the German record champions, several top European clubs are interested in him. The two hottest leads currently lead to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid

FC Barcelona now appear to have added another serious interested party. The notoriously financially strapped Catalans would naturally be happy to sign Upamecano on a free transfer. Scouts from the Blaugrana recently visited Germany to determine the sporting benefits of an Upamecano deal as well as the financial ones

However, it was not just Upamecano who was closely scrutinized: BVB star Nico Schlotterbeck, who has also been linked with a possible departure, is also said to have been observed by the Catalan scouts

„Tough negotiations“ between Bayern and Upamecano

Despite the many interested parties, FC Bayern’s declared aim is to agree a contract extension with Upamecano. As kicker reporter Georg Holzner reports, the bosses are currently in „tough negotiations“ with Dayot Upamecano and his management

The sticking point, as is so often the case, is the salary and the hand money demanded. According to Holzner, Munich „may not meet these demands in full“. Nevertheless, it seems likely that the record champions will make concessions to the French defensive star

An agreement in principle had already been reached in the spring, but after Upamecano became aware that the salaries of his team-mates Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala had risen significantly due to new contracts, talks were initially suspended until after the Club World Cup. Now Bayern will probably have to dig much deeper into their pockets if they do not want to lose Upamecano.
