In a quirky story that has set social media ablaze, a Manchester United supporter refused to cut his hair for nearly 500 days, tying his decision to a promise that he would only visit the barber once his team secured five consecutive Premier League wins.
Frank Illet, the man behind the account “TheUnitedStrand,” announced in October 2024 that he would not get a haircut until the Red Devils achieved this feat. The challenge instantly captured the imagination of United fans everywhere.
When asked about the story, Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha was quick to downplay the media hype. Speaking to “Romario TV,” he made it clear that the players don’t see this as any real source of motivation.
Cunha stated: “People are more concerned about getting five wins because of a haircut than about the 15 points. I couldn’t care less about his hair.”
He added: “We sometimes talk about it in the dressing room, but it doesn’t really drive us. We don’t think it’s that great. Nobody wants those five wins more than us, or more victories, whatever.”
With a massive social media following, Frank Illet now boasts over 1.5 million followers worldwide, which explains the huge media attention surrounding his campaign.
Currently sitting fourth in the league with 45 points from 26 matches, Manchester United are determined to solidify their position and secure a spot in the 2026-2027 Champions League.
