According to Atenção Vascaínos, agent André Cury confirmed on Monday 9 that David will remain at Vasco for 2026. He will honour his contract and is in the coaching staff’s plans for the season.
David’s retention carries Fernando Diniz’s approval. The head coach values his physical profile and tactical discipline, notably his defensive tracking and speed into depth.
His stay preserves an experienced option out wide, competing with Adson, Andrés Gómez and Nuno Moreira, plus recent arrivals Marino Hinestroza and Johan Rojas, who can also play wide.
Attention now turns to defence. Vasco have until 11 March, the transfer window deadline, to address two priority gaps, a holding midfielder and a centre-back.
Behind the scenes, Halam Loboa of Independiente Medellín is being monitored for the holding role, while Sosa of Racing has also been linked. The hierarchy are racing to equip Diniz before the most demanding phase of the campaign.
Since joining from Internacional, David’s rapport with supporters has swung between appreciation for his graft and frustration at technical dips. Nicknamed ‘DVD’, he has often drawn criticism for decision-making.
His standout redemption came in the 6-0 win over Santos in the 2025 Brasileirão at Morumbi, when he started and struck first time from a Lucas Piton cross. The number 7 now aims to turn flashes into consistency in 2026, with Diniz trusting his physical capacity for the campaign.
