Valencia have turned to Javier Aguirre to escape relegation. After one win in seven, results must come quickly in Santander.
According to Superdeporte, October has been their danger month, with only four wins in 31 matches across eight Octobers from 2018 to 2025.
The exception was 2017 under Marcelino García Toral, a perfect month of four wins from four.
In 2018 they drew all three, a run that spawned the empatencia tag. Under Celades in 2019 there were four games, one defeat, two draws and a 2-1 win over Alavés through Maxi Gómez and Dani Parejo.
Javi Gracia’s side lost all three the following season. Under Bordalás, who reached the Copa del Rey final in April 2022, October brought five games and just one win, 2-0 against Villarreal through Guillamón and Carlos Soler.
In summer 2022 Bordalás was ousted and Gattuso arrived. The so called Gattuseta yielded only one October win from six, 1-2 at Osasuna courtesy of Justin Kluivert and Diakhaby.
Rubén Baraja’s first October in 2023 brought four fixtures and one win, against Cádiz via José Gayà and Hugo Duro. In 2024 he failed to win any of three. In 2025, under Corberán, there were two defeats and a draw, a prelude to a first half with the team regularly in the relegation places.
Whether Aguirre can end it remains to be seen. October offers three fixtures, away to Racing then home to Athletic and Villarreal.
