In the Premier League, both Wolves and Burnley's fates were sealed in late April, but it would take until the final day to see who would be relegated to the second-tier alongside them.

As it happened, despite a convincing 3-0 win on the final day against Leeds United, West Ham United will be embarking on their first Championship campaign since their dramatic promotion through the play-offs back in 2012.

The new second-tier season begins on Friday, August 14, and there'll be a lot of preparation to do for all three promoted sides to ensure that they're in a good position to immediately hit the ground running and begin a promotion push.

All three are in different situations regarding their head coach. Wolves pursued Rob Edwards in November, with the idea that if they were to go down, he'd be well-suited to manage a promotion charge the following year.

Meanwhile, Hammers boss Nuno Espírito Santo looks increasingly likely to leave the London Stadium this summer, and Burnley are without a permanent head coach after Scott Parker left following their relegation in April.

So, with that in mind? Who will the men in the dugout be on the opening day in mid-August? Football League World has consulted AI-based chat service, ChatGPT, to get its opinions.

Wolves expected to remain with Rob Edwards in August

As previously mentioned, Edwards was brought to Molineux midway through the season after a truly disastrous opening three months under Vitor Pereira.

It was an eye-raising appointment, given that he left a Middlesbrough side that he had guided into the automatic promotion places in the Championship for one that already looked destined for the drop.

But the 43-year-old's connections with Wolves run deep. As a player, Edwards made more appearances for the Old Gold than he did anywhere else, and growing up in Telford, the move to the West Midlands meant he'd be closer to family.

With his past success in the second tier with Boro, plus the promotion he oversaw with Luton Town in the 2022/23 campaign, ChatGPT expects Edwards to still be at Molineux to begin the upcoming Championship campaign.

Steven Gerrard touted for a managerial return with Burnley

AI admitted that Burnley were the most unsettled in terms of who would lead them into the Championship when compared to their relegated counterparts.

Plenty of names have been thrown around the rumour mill when it comes to who will be in the dugout at Turf Moor to try and guide the Clarets to a third promotion in as many years out of the Championship.

Craig Bellemy was immediately touted as Scott Parker's successor, but reports state that he is expected to stay in his post with the Welsh national team as they prepare for a home European Championship in 2028.

Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy and Derby boss John Eustace were two names also thrown out by reports, but AI believes that Steven Gerrard will be the man to get the job, marking his return to management after over a year away, and close to four years since his last English job with Aston Villa.

Reports in early May stated that the 45-year-old had multiple talks with the higher-ups about a move to Burnley, so perhaps they could lead to Gerrard taking the job — at least, that's what AI is thinking.

Fellow English midfield legend Frank Lampard dropped back to the Championship to rebuild his managerial reputation with Coventry City, and Gerrard could easily follow suit at Turf Moor.

West Ham said to turn to Scott Parker to replace Nuno Espirito Santo

It seems to be the most no-brainer move for West Ham to go and get Scott Parker if Nuno Espirito Santo departs in the coming weeks, and ChatGPT believes that's what the Hammers will do.

Reports from the Guardian state that Parker and Gary O'Neil are of interest to the recently relegated side. With the latter already at work in Strasbourg, it may be easier for West Ham to pursue the former Burnley boss.

Nevertheless, the 45-year-old should be the number one candidate, anyway. Parker enjoyed a successful four years as a player at Upton Park, winning Hammer of the Year for three consecutive seasons between 2008 and 2011.

Plus, the former midfielder has carved out a brilliant CV in the Championship, earning promotion on three separate occasions for three different clubs, too, including at Turf Moor last season, where his Burnley side set a record for the best defence in EFL history, conceding just 16 goals in their 46 games.
