Ajax goalkeeper Jay Gorter will be given opportunities to play in the first team next season following his six-month loan spell with Aberdeen. According to De Telegraaf, Ajax’s director of football Sven Mislintat has decided against loaning Gorter out again or even selling him this summer.

Jay Gorter joined Ajax from Go Ahead Eagles in 2021 for a fee reported to be worth approximately €1m. The 23-year-old shot-stopper has struggled for opportunities at the Johan Cruyff Arena, making just one Eredivisie appearance in a 2-2 draw against Vitesse. During the 21/22 campaign, he featured 18 times for Jong Ajax.

In January Jay Gorter made the loan move to Aberdeen for the remainder of the season. Things didn’t go to plan for the goalkeeper, as he made just four appearances for the side that finished third in the Scottish premiership. Fellow Dutch goalkeeper Kelle Roos started the majority of Aberdeen’s matches.

Since Gorter’s return to Amsterdam, Sven Mislintat has decided that the Netherlands U21 international will not be sold or loaned out again this summer. Gorter is currently undergoing treatment for a minor injury, but he will likely receive some first team opportunities. Gerónimo Rulli currently occupies the number one spot at Ajax, but Gorter could compete for his place next season.
