Ajax’s interest in FC Barcelona’s Ansu Fati may finally open the door for a Marcus Rashford move to Spain.
The 27 year old was once again omitted from the squad versus FCSB last night and has not kicked a ball since well before Christmas.
Ruben Amorim has insisted that there is a way back for Rashford but that he must match other people’s standards in training.
The relationship between the two men is said to be frosty but the options for Rashford to leave are dwindling as there are only four more days of the transfer window left.
Numerous clubs have been linked to the English forward but it is said that Barcelona are his favourite option, but they have so far been unable to sell any players to make space in their squad for the arrival of the United academy product.
Nonetheless, Fati’s potential departure could change that.
It was reported earlier in the window that the Spaniard would not entertain a move away from Barcelona but Ajax’s interest could sway him.
According to Dutch paper De Telegraaf Ajax will “choose between Ansu Fati, Oliver Edvardsen, Rabbi Matondo and Carlos Forbs” as an attacking reinforcement before the end of the window.
“The most eye-catching is that of FC Barcelona player Ansu Fati (22).”
“The winger who went through the entire Barça youth academy and played for Brighton & Hove Albion on loan last season, has only been in action for 186 minutes this season, partly due to injuries.”
With Unai Hernandez’s sale to Saudi Arabia, the departure of Fati could free up the required space for FC Barcelona to strike a deal for the England forward.
United have also been linked with Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel, whose interest in the youngster is also likely linked to whether they can get Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho off the wage bill before the end of the window.
