Ajax make Argentine their second defensive signing in 48 hours

Ajax have confirmed Royal Antwerp left-back Gastón Ávila as their ninth summer signing.

The 21-year-old Argentine moves to the Johan Cruijff ArenA in a deal worth an initial €12.5m potentially rising to €14.4m.

Ávila has penned a five-year contract with the Amsterdam club and becomes their second defensive addition in the space of 48 hours.

Maurice Steijn’s side tied up the signing of Croatia international Josip Šutalo on Sunday from Dinamo Zagreb in a reported €20.5m switch.

Ajax currently sit fifth in the Eredivisie table after two games unbeaten ahead of Thursday’s Europa League play-off first leg with Ludogorets.
