Ajax has announced the immediate sacking of head coach John Heitinga, whose contract was originally set to run until June 30, 2027.

His agreement, along with that of assistant coach Marcel Keizer, will be terminated.

The club has appointed Fred Grim to assume Heitinga’s duties on an interim basis while a search for a new head coach is underway.

Technical director Alex Kroes acknowledged that while time had been given for adjustments within the squad, the club concluded that a change in leadership was necessary.

Ajax expressed appreciation for Heitinga and Keizer’s contributions and wished Grim success in his upcoming matches.

They most recently lost 3-0 in the Champions League in midweek and sit bottom of that league table having lost all four games in convincing fashion, while they are also fourth in the Eredivisie table.
