Ajax are interested in Sparta Prague and Oranje U19 goalkeeper Joeri Heerkens, as per Voetbal International. The stopper is in the picture to become a stand-in for when Vítězslav Jaroš arrives on loan in Amsterdam.

Robin Roefs was initially the desired profile for the role, but it looks as though Heerkens fits better, especially given NEC Nijmegen’s price demands. The Amsterdammers have been following him for some time and hope to be able to pick up Heerkens for around two million euros in the Czech Republic.

Currently, Heerkens plays for Sparta Prague B, the reserve team, and occasionally sits on the bench for the first team. Sparta Prague would rather not lose him, but the goalkeeper prefers a transfer to Ajax.

The club has had Heerkens in its sights for some time and sees this as a suitable moment to strike. The intention is for Heerkens to be prepared to become the first goalkeeper in the future.

Vítězslav Jaroš is expected to arrive on loan from Liverpool for this coming season. He will arrive as number one. With Remko Pasveer (41), who is set to sign a one-year contract extension, Heerkens will have a second mentor next to him.

Due to the serious interest in Heerkens, it seems clear that Jay Gorter will struggle for play time at Ajax. The keeper is said to be considering some offers, but has yet to make a choice.
