Al Ahly commenced their 2025/26 CAF Champions League campaign with a slender 1-0 win over Aigle Noirs in Bujumbura on Saturday.

The Egyptian giants secured a favorable result on the road, thanks to Burundian defender Iragi K, who accidentally put the ball in his own net in a failed attempt to clear a cross.

While Ahly dominated possession, they couldn't score a second goal but it gives the Egyptian giants the crucial away goal advantage over the Burundi champions ahead of the return leg.

Newly appointed head coach Jess Thorup got his tenure off with a win and will be looking to get the job done when the record 12-time African champions host Aigle in Cairo next week.

With a passionate crowd behind them in Egypt, the Red Devils have one foot into the group stages as they chase a 13th Champions League title.
