Nije joined in September 2024 on a deal due to run until June, but he was sent back in January, five months early. He did not make his debut, and was named only once in the squad, a 3-2 defeat at Chapecoense on 16 October 2024 in the 32nd round of Série B at Arena Condá.

His arrival was delayed by visa and paperwork, with an application on 13 August and arrival 10 days later before medicals. He was announced on 2 September and presented on 4 September.

Language barriers hampered his integration, though team-mate Giuliano speaks English. Head coach Fábio Carille cited adaptation and a need for greater intensity in training when asked about his lack of minutes.

Nije scored in two training matches, 3-0 wins over Água Santa on 10 September and EC São Bernardo on 2 October, both at CT Rei Pelé.

Banjul-born and 32, he is the son of Biri Biri. He started at Real de Banjul in 2014, moved to FUS Rabat until 2017, then impressed across six seasons with Boavista, scoring 36 in 109 and earning Gambia call-ups. Sold to Al-Markhiya in 2023, he recorded 10 goals and four assists in 26, then had loans at Farense and now Al-Wakrah.
