Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab are actively courting Bayer Leverkusen’s Kerem Demirbay but face competition from Galatasaray, according to Kicker.
Demirbay, who cost Leverkusen a club record €32m from Hoffenheim in 2019, is entering the final 12 months of his contract and with little prospect of an extension, would be allowed to leave the Bundesliga club.
An agreement between Galatasaray and Bayer Leverkusen has not yet been reached with the Süper Lig club offering less than €2m. B04 are hoping for a significantly higher fee, which Al-Shabab would be able to pay. Demirbay (30) is currently one of the club’s highest earners, and it’s a figure that Al-Shabab would be able to match.
Since joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2019, Demirbay has played 149 games across all competitions, scoring 15 and creating 30. Although not in the club’s plans, the former Germany international played 24 games under Xabi Alonso last season.
