According to Football Italia, Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly raised Kerim Alajbegovic’s price to €35m and Chelsea are now in the frame, a setback for Atalanta, Milan, Roma and Fiorentina.
Any negotiations are described as being at an early stage.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has impressed for his country as they reached the World Cup, and at RB Salzburg last season. He turns 19 in September.
He contributed 13 goals and four assists in 44 games last season.
It had been thought a deal could be done for around €30m, but the growing competition has pushed the valuation higher.
Atalanta appeared furthest along, with a bid worth €30m including add-ons. Milan, Roma and Fiorentina are tracking developments in Serie A. He has also been linked with Juventus, Napoli and Newcastle United, though they seem to have other priorities for now.
