Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have hailed Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly after a blistering start in central midfield, with the 20-year-old catching the eye for club and Thomas Tuchel’s England.

Lewis-Skelly started England’s Nations League opener at Wembley alongside Elliot Anderson and Jude Bellingham. Despite a 3-2 defeat to Spain, he produced a standout display.

The academy graduate broke into Mikel Arteta’s first team two seasons ago and was part of last season’s Premier League title win. Riccardo Calafiori’s emergence at left-back limited his minutes and he missed out on Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup squad. He has since returned to his favoured role in central midfield.

“I know he played in midfield last season but his rise this season to go into Arsenal and into England’s midfield has been remarkable,” Shearer said. The comments were made on The Rest Is Football podcast.

“It has been remarkable,” Lineker said. “Big responsibility against Spain, especially when you’ve got one of the midfielders, Jude Bellingham, who is primarily in forward positions. I thought both Lewis-Skelly and Elliot Anderson in there were exceptional.”

Lewis-Skelly will hope to keep his place when England face the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
