Alavés endured a heavy home defeat at Mendizorroza, leaving a mixed set of performances under the microscope.

According to as.com, Antonio Blanco struck early and Tenaglia later made it 2-1 from an Abde Rebbach corner, before Athletic hit back with second half stunners. Nico Williams scored after a failed clearance as Athletic overpowered the hosts.

Sivera had a few shaky moments with his distribution but was otherwise steady, with little chance against the finishes. Jonny Otto and the centre-backs were exposed as the game opened up. Víctor Parada found it increasingly demanding.

Abde Rebbach was tidy on the left and provided the corner for Tenaglia. Denis Suárez found clever passing lanes but the contest became increasingly physical. Pablo Ibáñez worked hard before being replaced, and Blanco had to rein himself in after a booking.

Toni Martínez barely had a sight of goal and misses the influence of Lucas Boyé on the pitch. Diabate fought without reward and was withdrawn. Ángel Pérez raided down his flank but with less impact than usual, the club are running a specific recovery plan for him.

Guevara and Guridi were introduced to freshen midfield, with Guridi denied late by Unai Simón. Carles Aleñá will miss the Elche match after reaching five yellow cards.
