Alazne Estensoro has spliced elite goalkeeping with an engineering degree and now owns a world title, the Real Sociedad teenager helping Spain’s under-20s triumph in Poland after a penalty shootout against North Korea.

According to Diario Vasco, the Lazkao-born keeper, 1.87 metres tall, stood out early at Goierri Gorri for her calm and reflexes. She joined Real Sociedad in 2021, rose through the B team, broke into Spain’s youth set-up and became under-17 European champion.

An anterior cruciate ligament rupture in May 2024 halted her surge. Surgery and a long rehabilitation followed, which she approached with methodical rigour drawn from her studies, rebuilding strength and sharpening her game.

Eighteen months later, on 23 November 2025, she debuted in Liga F against Alhama, a tangible reward for perseverance. She continues to balance lectures with the first team and is contracted to Real Sociedad until 2028, saying at renewal that she would bring daily enthusiasm to the work.

In Poland she played one full match, a 1-3 win over China, while fellow keeper Laia López decided the final by saving two of five penalties. Estensoro’s competitiveness and maturity were seen as integral to the group.

The gold has only heightened her drive to compete for minutes with Julia Arrula. She is back at Zubieta today, with Real Sociedad facing Heart of Midlothian tomorrow at 19:00 in the Europa Cup after a 0-0 first leg.
