Beyond La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, FC Barcelona now shift their focus to the Copa del Rey. As the record winners of the competition and the defending champions, having claimed the title last season, the Catalan giants will be determined to retain their crown.
However, before they can think about repeating last season’s success, Barcelona must first secure a place in the semi-finals. Their immediate challenge comes in the form of Albacete in the quarter-finals.
While Albacete might be the only team left in the competition that is not from Spain’s top flight, they are far from being some kind of pushover. After all, this is the same team that managed to knock out Real Madrid in the previous round of the Copa del Rey.
For that reason, Barcelona would do well not to underestimate this team and what they are capable of doing. Fortunately, Hansi Flick’s side remains fully focused on their objectives and has showcased no signs of slowing down recently.
Across their last five games in all competitions, La Blaugrana have four wins and one loss. Moreover, they have scored 15 goals across those five games, and have conceded only six goals in return across the same time period.
This showcases the impressive form of the team, and their concentration as well, moving forward with their season. It highlights their commitment as well, which is something that Hansi Flick must be enjoying at the moment.
However, their opponents have been enjoying an equally good run of form as well. Albacete, across their last five games, have four wins and one draw across all competitions, albeit while competing in the Segunda Division.
One of those four wins came against Real Madrid, with Albacete shocking the world by knocking out Los Blancos in the Copa del Rey. As for their goal difference, they have 7 goals scored in their last five games, and they have conceded only two goals, both of which were scored by Real Madrid.
Far from an easy team to beat, they will also be able to count on their home advantage against Flick’s Barcelona. In many ways, despite being the underdogs here, Albacete have everything to generate another shock result, but the Catalan giants must do whatever it takes to crush that dream.
