Alban Lafont (25) is the subject of an approach from the Burkina Faso Football Federation, as per a report from Ouest-France.
Lafont, despite being called up to the France squad in September 2022, has never played for Les Bleus. At one point, it did look as though he could make a breakthrough into the international set-up. Varying form, coupled with the rise of Mike Maignan and Brice Samba have, however, seen him move down the hierarchy.
Didier Deschamps’ trust in Alphonse Areola to be the No.3, as well as the emergence of Lucas Chevalier, and in the long term, Guillaume Restes, means that the prospects of Lafont playing for France look increasingly remote. The FC Nantes shot-stopper has always given his priority to Les Bleus.
However, it is within this context that Burkina Faso have made an approach. The former Fiorentina goalkeeper was born in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s capital. The goalkeeper’s entourage recently met with Aristide Bancé, the head of recruitment for players with dual nationality of the Burkina Faso federation. Despite the approach, Lafont has yet to agree to a nationality switch, according to Ouest-France.
