Alberola Rojas has been appointed to referee Saturday’s Copa del Rey final between Real Sociedad and Atlético de Madrid at La Cartuja.

According to AS, the Comité Técnico de Árbitros has selected the La Mancha official for his first Copa final, with Figueroa Vázquez in charge of VAR and Trujillo Suárez assisting.

Named the best referee last season, Alberola is regarded among LaLiga’s leading officials and a candidate for greater international prominence. He debuted young in the top flight and is noted for clear communication and firm match control.

He is a familiar figure for Atlético, who have complained about him on several occasions, particularly over decisions in Madrid derbies. Even so, the CTA’s confidence in him is described as full.

Trujillo Suárez worked with Alberola in Real Madrid’s match against Girona on Friday, a game that provoked controversy. Trujillo did not alert a possible penalty for a blow to Mbappé’s face, and although the forward bled, VAR did not advise a review. Their appointments for La Cartuja were planned before that fixture.
