Cádiz have released a surreal, scripted-style video to confirm Javi Ontiveros will stay, casting it as a second chance as owner-president Christian Septien and head coach Albert Celades address him in the dressing room.
According to Superdeporte, the clip shows a downcast Ontiveros as Septien asks after him, then demands commitment, professionalism and improved fitness on camera. The winger says he is highly motivated and wants to hear the crowd applaud him again, with the exchange framed simply as a second opportunity.
Only months ago the picture was starkly different. Then-president Manuel Vizcaíno had accused Ontiveros of disrespecting the shirt and even questioned his desire to play, and the forward looked set to leave the Nuevo Mirandilla.
Celades, who coached Valencia in 2019-20, echoes the line that Cádiz want to count on Ontiveros but that he must prove it on the pitch, and expects every player to give everything. His wider brief includes trying to return the club to Primera, though he says the top executive has not asked for that.
The video signals a public reset. Ontiveros has a route back, now he must take it where it matters, in matches.
