Aarón Mayol and Aimar Blázquez, the latest academy prospects to reach Valencia’s first team, both scored in the 2-3 defeat to Real Sociedad at Mestalla and now aim to impress new coach Javier Aguirre.

"We have to show Javier Aguirre that we are ready," the pair said, speaking to VCF Media.

Their goals came under interim Óscar Sánchez, whose faith they seized. Sánchez has returned to Mestalla, with Aguirre taking charge of the first team.

Afterward they added their names to the De Paterna a Mestalla mural at the Paterna training complex. Mayol became the 126th and Blázquez the 127th to debut officially for the senior side after developing in the Academy or playing for Mestalla since 1992.

Mayol said: "It is a source of pride to be on that mural alongside names like our captain José Gayà or Ferran Torres, who scored the goal that gave us the World Cup."

"We are young, we come from below with Mestalla and still hold Mestalla registrations," Blázquez added. "Our goal now is to help the first team as much as possible. If the boss wants to count on us, we are more than ready to help."

Blázquez called his strike "a day I will never forget", saying he will frame the match shirt and that sharing it with his family was deeply emotional. Mayol said of his goal, "I caught it clean, saw the ball go in and sprinted to celebrate with Aimar, a unique feeling."
