There is no doubt that Pedri is one of the very best players in the current FC Barcelona squad, and also one of the most beloved by the fans. Ever since his arrival from Las Palmas, he has continued to grow into the Blaugrana team, and has now established himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe.
Meanwhile, there was another player from his native city of Tenerife who also broke out at Las Palmas and whom the Catalans liked a lot and closely monitored for several years, i.e., Alberto Moleiro.
The Spaniard was always seen as a profile that suited Barcelona’s style of play because of his ability to operate between the lines, combine well with teammates, and make a difference in tight spaces. In fact, within the club, there was a feeling that he possessed many of the qualities needed to succeed at Barça.
However, he ended up joining Villarreal in 2025 in a deal worth around €16 million, and his development has only accelerated since then. The Canary Islander enjoyed an excellent campaign under Marcelino García Toral, scoring 10 goals and becoming one of the undisputed starters for the Yellow Submarine.
Beyond his goals, Moleiro also stood out for his consistency and personality in the final third, proving himself capable of taking on a leading role in a side competing for European places. At 22 years of age, he is now widely regarded as one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in Spanish football.
Now, a report from SPORT claims that Barcelona never really forgot about the player and have once again been in contact with his entourage to inquire about the possibility of him joining the club in the future.
However, he still has a contract with Villarreal for the next three years, while his release clause currently stands at €50 million. Even so, the report suggests there could be room for negotiations in the future if Barcelona decide to seriously pursue the midfielder.
Meanwhile, Alberto Moleiro himself has been a Barcelona fan since childhood and dreams of donning the Blaugrana jersey one day, especially at the renovated Spotify Camp Nou.
The midfielder’s impressive rise has also put him firmly on the radar of Luis de la Fuente. Having already made several appearances for Spain’s under-21 side, Moleiro is now aiming to break into the senior national team setup as well.
For now, it remains to be seen whether the stars will align for a potential move to the Blaugrana club in the coming years.
