Albiol bid farewell to Pisa on Friday, with his future undecided as he approaches the end of his playing career.

According to AS, retirement is an option, as is extending his career for another season if an attractive project like Pisa's emerges. He already holds the coaching licence and intends to move into management once he stops playing.

Across more than 20 years, he played in La Liga for Getafe, Valencia, Real Madrid and Villarreal, and in Serie A for Napoli and Pisa. He has prioritised competing at the highest level while balancing family life, and has never contemplated big-money offers from Arab leagues or MLS.

He will wait a few weeks before deciding. If a proposal similar to Pisa's arrives, he could carry on for one more year. Otherwise, he is ready to begin coaching.

He is weighing two entry routes, starting in an academy as a head coach or joining a professional staff as an assistant. His grounding is formidable, having worked under Luis Aragonés and Vicente del Bosque with the national team, with whom he won two European Championships and a World Cup, and under Unai Emery, Manuel Pellegrini, José Mourinho and Rafa Benítez.

His club honours include one La Liga, two Europa Leagues, two Copas del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, the Italian Super Cup and the Coppa Italia.
