Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 8 games

Article image:Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 8 games

Josh Maja’s first goal since he scored twice against Preston North End on New Year’s Day was enough to secure all three points for the Baggies at Carrow Road condemning Norwich City to a fifth successive home defeat in all competitions. It was, however, the other “Josh” who was the hero of the hour – Albion ‘keeper Josh Griffiths made a string of fine saves to keep the hosts out.

With a large number of draws over gameweek eight in the Championship (eight of the twelve fixtures finished all square), the Baggies were able to move up to fourth spot, two points behind second-placed Coventry City and four away from table-toppers Middlesbrough.

Looking ahead to game nine, the Baggies haven’t lost the ninth game of a second tier campaign when it has come away from the Hawthorns since 1995 when they were beaten by a Stoke City side who were very much within their period as Albion’s bogey side. Two years ago, Albion won 4-0 at Preston North End in game nine with goals from Furlong, Mowatt, Phillips and Bartley.
