Barcelona have a lot of business to get done before the summer transfer window closes for business next week, particularly when it comes to exits. It’s expected that Marc Casado and a few others will move on, and in that group could be Alejandro Balde, whose future at the Spotify Camp Nou has looked increasingly uncertain in recent weeks.
Balde’s situation has started to look increasingly uncertain after he was left out of Barcelona’s squad for their victory at Elche last weekend. On the back of this, the 22-year-old defender has reportedly expressed doubts about continuing at Barcelona, which has alerted Manchester United to his situation.
Balde has now made his decision on whether he wants to stay or go this summer, and as per Fabrizio Romano, he has communicated to Hansi Flick that his intention is to remain part of the squad for the 2026-27 season.
Barcelona are happy for Balde to stay, but if he signalled his intention to leave, they would have opened the exit door. While this is now unlikely to happen before next week’s deadline, it is not completely finalised, as the Catalans are still willing to accept a big offer from a “top club” if one arrives.
Balde may not be a regular starter during the 2026-27 season due to Joao Cancelo being more favoured by Flick, but his profile is one that they need to retain. Furthermore, he should only get better as the years go on, meaning that he will have many chances to be the club’s starting left-back again soon, although that will depend on how he develops.
Balde’s situation will still be one to watch before next week’s deadline, but as things stand, he should be sticking around in Catalonia for at least another 12 months.
