The FC Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde has seen his situation take a radical turn in the last few days. The Blaugrana fullback continued to be linked with a move away from the club on and off during the summer, but previously, it looked like he would end up staying, at least for this new season.
However, things have changed significantly since the permanent signing of Joao Cancelo. It was known that the Catalans were looking to land the Portuguese fullback after he impressed Flick during his half-season loan last season, but the Spaniard was looking to continue fighting with him for a starting spot.
Some developments in the last few days have made it clear that he no longer remains in Flick’s plans for the next season. He was not called up for the first match of the new season, against Elche, and also saw another of his competitors for a starting spot, Xavi Espart, start in this game, which shows the youngster is clearly higher than him in the German coach’s pecking order.
In such a context, MARCA reports that several conversations have taken place between Balde and the club, and following these talks, the player has decided to leave Barcelona this summer.
As a result, both the Blaugranes and the fullback’s agent, Jorge Mendes, have started looking for a new club for him. However, their task is not easy, mainly because of the few days left in the transfer market, and with most of the clubs already having finalized their squads.
The Premier League giants Manchester United remain interested in Alejandro Balde, but they have ruled out a permanent transfer, and want him only on loan with a purchase option. This clashes with the Catalans’ plans, who are aiming for a permanent transfer. However, with only a few days left in the market, Barcelona might end up agreeing on a loan departure, especially as other offers on the table are also not too tempting.
