Alessio Romagnoli remains keen on an Al-Sadd switch this summer after his winter move collapsed, according to The Laziali.

The 31-year-old has been irritated by Claudio Lotito’s broken promises over a pay rise dating back to 2023. He was close to joining Roberto Mancini’s Al-Sadd before the Qatari window shut, but talks fell apart when the Lazio president asked him to waive three months’ wages, a request the centre-back declined on principle.

Romagnoli returned to Maurizio Sarri’s squad in early February, yet Al-Sadd’s interest persisted. The Qatari champions had reportedly vowed to revisit a deal in the summer. Concerns about unrest in the Middle East had made the player hesitant in recent months, but he now appears to have moved past them.

He is awaiting a summer offer and is said to be eager to sign if one arrives.

The Italian has one year left on his Lazio contract. While wearing the Aquile shirt was a dream for the lifelong supporter, his deteriorating relationship with Lotito and the club’s shambolic state have pushed him, along with others, to look for an exit. Saturday’s match against Pisa could be his last appearance for Lazio.
