Alessio Romagnoli ‘to join’ Al-Sadd as Lazio exit nears | OneFootball

Alessio Romagnoli is close to joining Al-Sadd, a move that would finally draw a nine-month transfer saga to a close.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, the Lazio defender has been cleared to travel to the Middle East to sign, with the clubs now exchanging documents. Fabrizio Romano has said the move will be a permanent four-year deal running to June 2030.

Al-Sadd first pushed in January, when Romagnoli waved goodbye to supporters after the Lecce trip, but talks collapsed after Claudio Lotito asked him to forgo around three months’ pay, which he declined.

In June, a €3 million sale was agreed and Romagnoli recorded a farewell message shown during an anti-Lotito protest, yet unrest in the Middle East halted the move and Lazio would not accept a six-month payment delay.

Reinstated by Gennaro Gattuso, he has not featured this season due to a physical issue. The window shut across most of Europe on Tuesday night, but remains open in Qatar until Thursday evening, giving Al-Sadd fresh room to operate.

Previous reports suggested net wages of €6 million per year.
