Alessio Romagnoli has signalled his Lazio exit, yet he remains on the club’s books, with no Al-Sadd contract signed.
The 31-year-old has been pushing to go since January after relations with president Claudio Lotito broke down, largely over a promised pay rise. A winter move to Al-Sadd was close, then collapsed late on.
He later addressed supporters in a video shown at the two July anti-Lotito protest, confirming his intention to leave. Even so, he is still in Rome.
Il Corriere dello Sport reported he was due in Doha by five July. La Lazio Siamo Noi said the delay related to final contract details, with Al-Sadd also appointing Razvan Lucescu to replace Roberto Mancini.
On 12 July, former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani died, prompting nationwide mourning and the suspension of sporting activity for the rest of the month. While Gennaro Gattuso leads pre-season at Formello, Romagnoli is training alone as he awaits normality in Qatar.
