Flamengo thrashed Madureira 8-0 on Monday to reach the Campeonato Carioca final, but unrest around the club persists. After the win, Alex Sandro said the squad’s commitment matches 2025, when they claimed the league and Libertadores.

They will meet rivals Fluminense, the sixth state final between the sides in the past seven years. According to Globo.com, around 50 supporters protested at the Ninho do Urubu on Saturday after runners-up finishes in the Supercopa do Brasil and Recopa Sudamericana, with complaints aimed at players, head coach Filipe Luís and the board, and there were further matchday chants before kick-off plus a banner stating fans came for the shirt rather than the players.

Alex Sandro said any proposed dialogue did not reach the dressing room via the board and security. He added he is open to talks, was unsure they would change anything, and felt on pitch displays had already begun to improve, insisting the group is committed.

He maintained last year’s commitment has not altered, only results have, with no titles secured so far this season. He regretted the growing distance between fans and the squad.

Looking ahead, he said facing Fluminense is always difficult, especially in a final. The focus, he noted, will be on controllables such as performance, desire and strategy, which he believes could lead to a possible victory. The final is scheduled for Sunday at the Maracanã, kick-off to be confirmed.
