Alexander Isak has left Sweden’s camp and returned to Liverpool after suffering an injury despite scoring in Friday’s 2-1 Nations League win over Romania in Stockholm.

The club said in a statement that he has withdrawn with a minor injury, will miss Sweden’s next three matches of this international window, and will now be assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff.

Isak opened the scoring in Stockholm and completed the match, continuing a promising start to the season for club and country.

Sweden host Poland on Monday at 20:45, then face Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, before travelling to Romania on Monday 5 October.

If he recovers, the former Newcastle striker, on five goals this season for club and country, will be available to Andoni Iraola. Liverpool host Manchester City on Sunday 11 October at 17:30 in Premier League matchweek 6.
