Alexandre Golovine is set to remain at Monaco despite a late push from Spartak Moscow, with no immediate return to Russia expected.
Talks took place with Zenit St Petersburg, although discussions with Spartak were the most advanced. Championat reports an offer from Moscow worth €19m.
Monaco had been obliged to sell to meet commitments made to the DNCG, French football's financial watchdog, so the club recently opened the door to their longest-serving player's exit. Golovine joined in summer 2018.
Barring a very unexpected late twist before the Russian window closes on Thursday night, the 30-year-old, under contract until June 2029, will continue the season at ASM.
It is a sporting boost for Filipe Luis and the Principality side, but financially less helpful, with Monaco needing to raise around €50m in the winter window.
