Lucía Alemany’s fiction feature Alexia is filming in Mollet del Vallès, tracing Alexia Putellas’s beginnings up to her Barça move at 18.

Putellas first played in Mollet’s streets when no girls’ teams existed. According to Superdeporte, the city now hosts clubs and schools, including her Eleven Foundation academy for vulnerable girls.

Emma Masoliver, nine, and Madicken Mauri-Sandaker, 16, portray her childhood and teens. Casting targeted registered youth footballers, with Alemany favouring natural performers. The shoot is at its halfway point in Mollet.

Mauri-Sandaker, also a footballer, says Putellas has emboldened girls to ignore boys’ jibes, recalling she was first sidelined in Cistella before proving she could match or better them.

Roger Casamajor plays Alexia’s father, Jaume, and Marina Salas her mother, Eli. Due in cinemas in 2027, the film foregrounds a supportive father and a protective, pragmatic mother amid an uncertain pathway.

Salas met Eli and describes a grounded woman with firm values. Casamajor notes parental faith long before women’s football filled grounds or hit TV. Putellas won the Ballon d’Or in 2021 and 2022, led Barcelona’s 2021 treble, and Spain won the World Cup in 2023.

Backed by Lazona, Lacima, You First Originals and Odessa Films, the project has Virginia Torrecilla coaching the football scenes. She urges equal rights over comparisons, and calls Putellas a trailblazer and an essential voice beyond sport.
