A biopic titled Alexia is being shot in Mollet del Vallès, directed by Lucía Alemany, tracing Alexia Putellas’s path to signing for Barcelona at 18, with a planned 2027 release, according to El Periódico Mediterráneo.

Putellas first played on Mollet’s streets when the city had no women’s teams. Now there are clubs and schools for girls, including the academy run by her Foundation Eleven for those in vulnerable situations.

Emma Masoliver, nine, and Madicken Mauri-Sandaker, 16, play her as a child and teenager after a search among registered youth players. Alemany prefers natural performers. Mauri-Sandaker says Putellas has emboldened girls, recalling boys in Cistella, Alt Empordà, once refusing to join in.

Roger Casamajor plays her father Jaume, with Marina Salas as her mother Eli. The film shows a family that encouraged ambition while protecting a daughter in an uncertain sporting landscape. Salas met Eli and describes a grounded, hardworking woman with firm values.

Her profile soared in 2021, when she won the Ballon d’Or, then again in 2022, as Barcelona won the league, Copa de la Reina and Champions League. Spain were world champions in 2023. Her influence now reaches far beyond trophies.

Produced by Lazona, Lacima, You First Originals (Gersh) and Odessa Films, the shoot includes former footballer and friend of Alexia Virginia Torrecilla as football coach to choreograph on-pitch scenes. Alemany sought specialist support. Torrecilla stresses ongoing fights for equality and calls Putellas a pioneer.
