Alexia Putellas scores first goal for London City Lionesses in victory over Brighton | OneFootball

Alexia Putellas scored her first goal in English football as London City Lionesses defeated Brighton & Hove Albion.

The home side took the lead with just under half an hour gone in the game. Grace Geyoro had a shot that Chiamaka Nnadozie managed to keep out with Putellas finishing up on the rebound. The Brighton goalkeeper will have felt that she should have kept it out but it was a big moment for Putellas who netted her first goal in her fifth appearance for the club.

London City almost doubled their lead early in the second half when Mapi León's delivery found Freya Godfrey whose header bounced off the post.

Eder Maestre's side had to wait until the second minute of stoppage time to finally wrap up the win. Fran Kirby was robbed of the ball in midfield before substitute Delphine Cascarino put in a ball from the right that Lucía Corrales was on hand to dispatch and secure all three points.

That win moves London City Lionesses up to second in the WSL, three points behind leaders Manchester City.
